My name is Dr. Weyta Weza and I am serving in the as the deputy general secretary in the head
office of the Ethiopian Kale Hiwot Church. The Ethiopian Kale Hiwot Church is about 90 years
old and in the last 90 years has been carrying out activities related to gospel outreach, teaching
the word of God, prayer, discipleship as well as social services like opening clinics and hospitals
and holistic development in both urban and rural areas. The Lord has greatly helped us and
blessed our labor. We reach out to all parts of Ethiopia and currently we have expanded to
Somalia, South Sudan, South Africa, Mid East and Far East as far afield as India. We have also
taken the gospel to America. The Lord has abounded toward us with His grace.
I have reviewed the opening and closing the books written by brother Adiamseged over the last
17 years and I am grateful for the opportunity to do so. Our beloved brother Adiamseged is a
humble servant of God. I was surprised while reading his books because although he hasn’t
earned a PhD in theology, in his dedication to the word of God and to the leading of the Spirit he
has produced these beneficial books for all Ethiopians around the world. May God continue to
bless him. I have seen that the contents of the books present in-depth commentary on the
individual books of the Bible for those who are interested in an in-depth study. Moreover, they
are concise and written in comparison with the original languages of Hebrew and Greek. The
interpretation of key messages is also presented in such a way that it bears no trace of bias to any
denomination. I am happy to testify that the books come with detailed, useful teachings for all
denominations and for anyone who can read and understand Amharic.
I trust that churches within the country and outside as well as individuals everywhere can be
blessed and edified by reading these books by brother Adiamseged. They can gain basic Bible
knowledge and grow in their spiritual life by applying what they learn from the books. I
recommend the books for this generation and era especially now that discipleship is being
sidelined and people are led more by emotion than by sound teaching of the Word. The Bible is
the greatest of revelations God has given us whereby we may shape our personality, conduct and
everything about life. I believe, therefore, that these books will be instrumental in leading this
generation to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and be His true disciples. If God will and our
brother lives, I wish he would continue to do more of this work and that an editorial committee
of theologians be formed to support him. There are many Bible schools and many Bible teachers
who can contribute to the development of these books which will be beneficial to many people
when printed and distributed. There are not many commentaries like these produced in Ethiopia.
These books and others like them can be translated into many other Ethiopian languages to help
in the spiritual edification and growth of many Ethiopian believers and those all over the world. I
pray that God may bless him and his GHLU ministry.
My name is Dr. Eskendr Tadesse. I have served as a director of the Ethiopia Full Gospel
Theological Seminary for the last 18 years. I am a member of the Ethiopia Full Gospel Believers
Church, Kotebe local church. I am serving in the capacity of a general secretary of the council of
leaders in the church. I am a married man and father of two children.
I have known Adiamseged since 15 years ago and I know that he has been deeply involved in the
writing ministry all these years. I have seen some of his writings. They are all useful because
they don’t go into complicated theological issues or complicated interpretations. I like them
because they present the kind of basic teachings that most Ethiopians can read and apply in their
lives. Moreover, they don’t deviate from sound doctrine and theology. However, I don’t think
many people are taking advantage of this ministry and the teachings through the books. These
books are timely considering the current doctrinal challenges the Ethiopian church is
confronting. Brother Adiamseged has devoted his full time to writing and he needs a lot of
support. He has written many books which can keep the church going within the right track. His
books on the Old Testament, the New Testament and various topics from the Bible are written
very well. They are written in a way that any individual can read and easily understand them. It
would be good if many people could get hold of these books and take advantage of them. Our
seminaries are found throughout the country; we have over 70 theological schools with two
campuses in here. We try to reach all people with these schools. We have students drawn from
various churches and denominations as well as from the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo church,
Amanuel Church and many students who are involved in the reformation. There are students in
our seminary from the Mekaneyesus Church, from Hiwot Berhan, from Genet Church, from
Meserete Kiristos, and from Full Gospel Believers Church. As I said earlier, our seminary is
sufficiently represented in every regional state of the country. Therefore, we have students from
Harar, Jijiga, Benishangul, Welega, from the Orthodox and the Catholic churches. We offer
training programs from certificate all the way to PhD. So, our brother Adiam’s books can be
distributed to all these regions and levels of training. It would also be very good if we support his
ministry in various ways. For example, we may support him by publishing the books, by
purchasing and reading them. As I said earlier, these books are of great value in Ethiopia because
Ethiopians are in Ethiopia. Of course there are many Ethiopians outside Ethiopia and they too
can use these books. However, the books can be of greater value in Ethiopia. Books are often
published but they are based merely on someone’s thoughts and therefore of very little value to
the reader. However, Brother Adiam Seged’s books, without going into complicated issues,
touch upon sound doctrine and are beneficial to the church in Ethiopia. Therefore, it would be
good to publish them in Ethiopia for Ethiopians to read them. Currently, we are facing a severe
shortage of sound doctrine and not many people are reading the Bible. Besides, not many people
know the Bible very well. As a result, teachings that are not from the Bible and contrary to sound
doctrine are coming from our pulpits. Adiamseged’s books can greatly help in dealing with these
problems. Therefore, they should be published in greater number of copies for distribution
throughout the churches of Ethiopia. Thank you.
My name is Nigussie Bulcha. I wish you peace and blessings from the Lord. I am involved in
ministering to the Lord in writing. I am a member of Compass, a fellowship of brothers in the
Lord. I participate in the effort to develop a commentary of the New Testament in Amharic.
Though there are many people who are in the Lord in this country and many ministers, we have
not enough commentaries and other teaching materials in our language. There are some
commentaries and study helps translated from other languages but they do not take our
conditions and the context of our country into context. To prepare a material helpful to us we
need someone who has lived among us and is one of us. A brother of ours named Pastor Endalk
has this very idea in his heart. The rest of us also had the same desire and together we are in the
process of developing a commentary in Amharic for the twenty-seven books of the New
Testament. I will also write one commentary of my own and edit those written by my brothers. I
have worked for a long time with Scripture Readers Union. What has brought me in contact with
you now is the books of Adiamseged Weldemariam. I have seen Adiamseged write about
thirteen books that I am aware of. He too focuses mainly on developing commentaries. He writes
other books on the Bible besides commentaries. I am impressed by his diligence. He has written
so many books and not one of them is a small book. For example, you may see here a
commentary on the Book of Hebrews which is about 700 pages. I wonder how long he worked
on it. Writing a commentary is no easy task. As you are all aware, our knowledge is limited but
he has made great efforts to share what little he has with many people. Of course commentaries
are not of the same kind. Some are technical and go into a lot of details while others are not so
technical. I have observed that Adiamseged’s commentary is inclined toward helping us solve
today’s problems and contains some instructions as well as reproofs. It is presented in a way that
it will be easy for the majority of readers to understand. I hope a lot can be added to his effort but
it is also appropriate to read and enjoy what he has already given us. These books will be great
blessings to many of our brothers and sisters. God bless this brother. I want to encourage all the
brothers and sisters who have been supporting him. I also want to encourage him to revise and
further enrich his books. May the Lord bless all of us, bless and strengthen the church in our
country.
My name is Pastor Yared Eshetu. I serve as a pastor and Bible teacher in Faith Bible
International Church. I have had the opportunity to read the first draft of the commentary Brother
Adi wrote on the Epistle to the Ephesians. I would like to say that it is a good beginning and a
good book. There are not many theological books written in our language. Although there are
some beginnings, there is still a yawning gap. Therefore, our brother’s commentary, which
follows the verse by verse expository style, is a good beginning. This is very important for the
church in our country. The western world has produced a great variety of books including
theological books. The abundance of such books in a country in part reflects on the growth of the
church the wealth of knowledge of God’s word in that country. The gospel is spreading far and
wide in our country and a great number of people are coming to the Lord. At the same time, a
great number of people are joining theological schools. However, there are not enough books to
teach the great number of people that are in need of them. Most of the theological schools are
using western commentaries written in English. I also used English books when I was learning.
Those books are written in the context of the western world which poses two problems: the first
one is the language. Since the books are not in our language, we study both language as well as
the theology. There may be some things we miss along the way. The second problem is that the
books are written with the western context in mind. It is high time we started developing
theological commentaries that take our country’s context and our needs into consideration. We
need commentaries written by our own people in our language. Books in our own language can
help ministers understand what exactly the word means while they are preparing teachings.
Moreover, there are various views on which we may not agree. Nonetheless, we need to know
what other people think and believe, especially those of us who are involved in the teaching
ministry because we may come across people in the congregation who have been exposed to
various views. Some of the ministers may not have the opportunity or the exposure to various
views. Therefore, if they get hold of books in their own language, they can learn by reading.
They will also be able to understand the word deeply and present it to people as deeply as they
have understood it.
I would like to point out that the book of Ephesians is a very essential book. The first part of
Ephesians, chapters one, two and three, present Christian doctrines while the second part deals
with how to apply the doctrines and live the life in Christ. Our brother Adi has done a tough
work presenting a detailed commentary on Ephesians. So, if it is published and gets into the
hands of believers, it will be beneficial. We ought to encourage our brother as he is very
important for the church in Ethiopia. The western world has a lot of books and we need to
encourage our brother to keep on writing. God bless you abundantly.
My name is Asrat Girma. I was saved in the Ethiopian Full Gospel Believers Church where I
am serving the Lord. I am a director of SIM and involved in disciple making as well as coaching
leaders. I have read Brother Adiamseged’s books, especially the commentary on the epistles to
the Hebrews and Ephesians. I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the writer’s
efforts. I have learnt a lot from these books. Thinking about preparing a commentary is a great
contribution on its own right but our brother has gone beyond thinking about it. It is so hard to
find commentaries written in Amharic. There may be one or two but you cannot find
commentaries on each book of the Bible in Amharic. I understand that the lack of such material
is one of the major factors for the lack of Bible knowledge in our country. I am confident that the
books by Adiamseged will fill this gap. It is commendable that the drafts, prepared with no less
quality than published works, were given to some readers for comment before publication. The
books are packed with information and detailed analysis of essential teachings. I have seen that
especially page 22 of the commentary on the book of Hebrews presents lots of information and is
not confined in the views of one denomination which lends acceptance to the work by many. The
draft has made a lot of effort to make the study applicable to current situations and personal lives
of believers. It is not the kind of book that shines temporarily and fades later. It is a timeless
work that can help and bless many generations to come. I would like to take this occasion to
recommend these books to Bible teachers and students, preachers, and pastors. They are helpful
in making disciples of many believers. If Adiamseged alone can do so much, I believe many
other writers can produce more books and help in clearing up the confusion and correcting the
errors that are currently threatening the church. I suggest we support Brother Adiamseged by
purchasing and reading the books and commenting on them. And I am grateful for the
opportunity of giving this comment. Thank you.
My name is Yonatan Aklilu. I am here to give some comments on Brother Adiamseged’s
commentary on the Gospel of John. A brother had given me this book and though I could not
read it thoroughly duty to time constraint in the ministry, I was able to go through the topics and
issues raised in it. I have understood two things after seeing the book. The first thing is that there
are many ministers in our country as you all know. However, there are not many books written in
Ethiopia to help equip young ministers with the correct knowledge of Bible doctrine. So, I
believe this book is a pioneer in this field in our country. The author has presented theme of
John’s gospel with the revelation of the Holy Spirit in a way that lets the reader see exactly what
John wanted to say and without imposing his personal views. I would like to thank our brother
for this. It is a wonderful book and you will greatly benefit by reading it. It is an alternative to the
available materials but it is also unique in that it comes packed with important biblical issues and
can edify the church in Ethiopia. God bless Adiamseged and God bless you too.
My name is Yohannes Teshome. I serve as a coordinator in training within the Addis Ababa
Meserete Kristos Church. I also teach the Bible in various schools. I have read Adiamseged’s
book and have seen some things in it. I would like to highlight the good lessons I got from the
book. Let me say a few words about reading and the youth in church. The days we are living in
require reasonable doubt in relation to faith. This is not the time to believe everything we see and
hear. As youth in this generation, we ought to listen to Bible teachings very carefully. The youth
are exposed to hear lots of things through the media. Therefore, they should develop the habit of
reading so that they can judge everything they hear by biblical standards. The Bible is meant not
only to be read but also to be studied. We ought to live on not only what we hear from preachers
or the small portion we read in the morning but we should also make time to study it deeply and
receive understanding with the help of the Holy Spirit. To accomplish this, it is very essential
that we get hold of study helps. There are not so many such books written in Amharic in our
country. Our brother Adiamseged is bringing us wonderful gifts of books in Amharic. I was able
to get hold of one the many books he wrote. I have read his book on the Gospel of John. Reading
a lot of books and compiling one useful book takes a lot of skill. Our brother deserves a lot of
support and encouragement. It is essential to support such people. And if we can it is good to
build on their efforts and contribute better works. I encourage everyone to read this book by our
brother and I believe we should appreciate our brother’s efforts and encourage him. It is very
important to support such people and we can do it we should build on what they have done and
contribute better works. I encourage everyone to read the books that our brother has written and
take advantage of them. I believe our brother has done excellent works and also call upon him to
keep up the good work. I have not read all the 21 chapters of the book but I have gone through
the major parts of it. I have found the book helpful for church ministry and Bible study especially
for those who want to study the Gospel of John. It provides background within the flow of every
major theme in the gospel. It also provides exegesis on every part. The flow of the narrations is
accompanied by explanation of historical backgrounds. The book also presents the stories in the
gospel relating them with other books of the New Testament as well as the Old Testament. It
teaches in a very simple way that anyone can use. It is suitable for personal study as well as for
group study. It is so enriched with information that even Bible school students can use it as a
good reference. It is a work well done. So the youth, whether they listen to teaching or
preaching, they can use the book for further and deeper study at home. Therefore, I encourage
the youth and people of all age groups to read it. Thank you.
